Admissions

The Houses of the City welcome three categories of residents having the status of student, trainee or post-doctorate student.

The candidates for admission must indicate the category that best corresponds to their position, because the forms to fill vary according to the categories. You will find the general description of the conditions of acceptance below.

Even if your request is acceptable this does not mean that the House is engaged to give you a lodging. It depends of the selection committee.
The decision of the selection committee are final and do not need to be motivated.

Student residents

To be admissible as a student, it is necessary :
- To Have the Canadian citizenship ;

- To be more than 21 years of age and less than 28 years old ;

- To be a first cycle Canadian university graduate (bachelors)* ;

- To provide a certificate of enrolment to 2nd or 3rd cycle studies (or equivalent) in a higher education establishment or School, located in the Paris area and accredited by the State or, in the case of training being part of the cursus to produce a training agreement between the university and the enterprise or organism in which the the training will be held.

The stay at the Cité Universitaire cannot be less than six months (from the beginning of October through the end of June) and cannot exceed three years. Although the academic year begins on October 1st, the admitted students can settle themselves before this date by paying a specific tariff.

* Insofar as places remain available after the admission of 2nd or 3rd cycle students, registered candidates to the bachelors in a Canadian university and staying to Paris for at least six months within the framework of an inter-university exchange program may be admitted.

Resident trainees

The residents trainees are professors, researchers, doctors, and artists, who, endowed with several years of professional experience, pursue temporary missions of higher formation in France, do research, or accomplish training courses. The stay of the trainees at the Cité Universitaire cannot be inferior to three months or exceed two years.

To be admitted as resident trainee, it is necessary :

- To Have the Canadian citizenship ;

- To have achieved a few years of professional experience ;

- To be (at the very least) a 2nd cycle university graduate or the equivalent ;

- To produce a certificate of traineeship (research or improvement) from a higher education establishment, a research center, or a company in the Paris region

Postdoctoral Residents

The House receives post-doctorates (titular of a PhD) of Canadian origin whose postdoctoral training project is accepted either by an approved scientific Institute or by a university under the supervision of the Paris, Créteil, or Versailles Academies.

The stay of the post-doctorant student to the Cité Universitaire cannot be inferior to three months or exceed two years.

For the artists, the conditions of admission based on university criteria are apply on the basis of equivalence.

They must have completed the basic training in their disciplines and be registered in a training program or a recognized high-formation course.

For couples’ admissions, the spouses must both answer the criteria of admission in their respective category and fill out separate files of admission.

The spouse of a post-doctorant student or trainee not answering the criteria of admission can share a room, but must pay a royalty with costs raised.
