Canada’s Committee of the House

Monsieur Robert Panet-RaymondThe House of Canadian Students in Paris is supported by the not-for-profit association “the Canadian Committee of the House of Canadian Students in Paris”.

The Committee, founded in 1948 by the Law Forming in Corporation the Canadian Committee of the House of Canadian Students in Paris, has been watching over the MEC ever since. Its main role is to help maintain, develop and perfect the House to the best of its means, financial and otherwise.

The Canadian Committee succeeded two ad hoc committees set up in 1925 and 1934 by the Honorable Senator J. Marcelin Wilson, the Founder of the House of Canadian Students.

It is important to note that the Committee is subject to private law. It operates as a private foundation, without the legal status to encode this, and does not receive financial subsidies from the Canadian government or any provincial government.

Since its foundation, well-known Montreal businessmen and the descendants of Senator Wilson have supervised the fortunes of the House of Canadian Students in Paris. The Committee is currently chaired by one of Wilson’s great grandsons, Mr Robert Panet-Raymond, assisted by two other descendants of the Founder. The Chairman took over from his uncle, Jean P.W Ostiguy, the grandson of the Founder of the House, who ran the committee for over 40 years.

A Board of Management made up of the following members supports the Chair of the Committee:

  1. Robert Panet-Raymond, Chair (great grandson of the Founder)
  2. Mathieu Panet-Raymond, (great, great grandson of the Founder)
  3. Richard Gervais, Vice President (alumni of the House)
  4. Carl Panet-Raymond, Secretary (great, great grandson of the Founder)
  5. Denise Ostiguy-Craig, Treasurer (great granddaughter of the Founder)
  6. Marcel Samson, (former Director of the House)
  7. Claudette Hould (former Director of the House)
  8. Pierre D. Brodeur (former Director of the House)
  9. Louis-Marie Tremblay (former Director of the House)
  10. Patrick Kenniff (human resources consultant)

Members meet for a General Assembly annually to ratify decisions taken by the Board of Management. The Assembly of members is composed of about twenty individuals from all walks of life: business, university, government and diplomacy, and former Directors, such as the French Ambassador to Canada, former Rectors of universities and high-ranking civil servants from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Canada.

The Committee’s address is 1100, boulevard René-Lévesque Ouest, bureau 1460, Montréal, Québec H3B 4N4. We invite you to send any questions you might have to the Secretary at this address or by Email to: cpr@lorangermarcoux.com.
